Sunbula thanks all those who came to support the Friday Food Market over the last three Fridays.  This pilot initiative, aiming to build new partnerships with farmers and food producing groups, has been very successful.  We are extremely delighted with everyone's positive reactions and requests to do more!

The following three groups participated in the market in June ---

Beit Doqu Development Society
, located in the village of Beit Doqu in the Jerusalem District of the West Bank, produces fresh pesto, tomato sauce, pickles, and various fruit jams.  All their products are made without artificial preservatives or chemicals.  Because the village is physically and economically strangulated by Israeli settlements, Separation Wall and the related infrastructure, the initiative of this kind is a lifeline for a number of villagers.  ARCS, an Italian NGO that works for local development and human rights, supports the farming and food processing projects of the Society.

Palestinian Livestock Development Center in Tubas, supported by
UCODEP, is the producer of Golden Sheep
brand Italian cheese.  Their fresh ricotta and mozzarella, and pecorino infused with local flavors like zatar, are in high demand among both locals and internationals in Palestine.

Sharaka (Arabic for 'partnership') is a Palestinian fair-trade agriculture initiative that links producers directly to consumers. It aims to support the livelihoods of Palestinian farmers and  encourage the purchase of locally grown produce while contributing to the boycott call for settlement goods.  Sharaka brought freshly-picked, chemical free baladi vegetables from growers in the Qalqiliya area villages, which are suffering from the effects of the Separation Wall.

Join us again in July at our garden for sampling and tasting of local food products.
Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!
