The patchwork technique was used for adding luxurious embellishment to traditional Palestinian dresses.  Patches of silk or satin were sewn onto the chest panel, skirt-fronts, or sleeves.  Patchwork with zigzag edges was called "Tashreem", and was mainly done in Bethlehem where professional embroiderers specialized in this technique.
