The patchwork technique was used for adding luxurious embellishment to traditional Palestinian dresses.  Patches of silk or satin were sewn onto the chest panel, skirt-fronts, or sleeves.  The patchwork with zigzag edges was called 'Tashreem' and was mainly done in Bethlehem were professional embroiderers specialized in this work.
